I had a urinary infection diagnosed by lab a few weeks ago. I took three days of bactrim and it cleared up. I have done some research and talke to friends and am concerned that I may have a kidney infection. I am going to see my doctor on Monday but is there anything I should do in the meantime?

Hey,
Thanks for your question. It may be that you have a kidney infection. If you do and you are off the antibiotics then it could get worse in a hurry. If you develop worsening pain or fever or vomiting then you must get to the ER right away as a kidney infection can get worse in a hurry and you can even become septic (bacteria in the blood) and that requires quick and definitive treatment with IV antibiotics, fluids, and the like. So, the long and short of it is if you feel worse or get worse between now and Monday go to the ER, specifically for the symptoms above.

Agree with MEDSTAT DOC1 to watch for fever , vomiting ,and increasing pain. The other thing that may need to be done if symptoms persist would be to get an ultrasound to look for a potential kidney stone. Nothing really to do until you see your doctor on Mon. unless the above mentioned symptoms continue to worsen.

Good Luck! Space Doc.
